Sekolah baru

Alhamdulillah, segala puja dan puji bagi-Nya, dengan segala nikmatnya telah sempurna perkara-perkara yang baik.

Tarikh bermulanya ‘sesi persekolahan’ baru. ‘Sekolah’ yang sebelum ini asing, tapi kini saya di dalamnya; setelah mempersiapkan diri sebanyak yang mampu untuk bernaung di bawah tarbiyah seorang Murabbi yang juga masih asing bagi saya. Seorang murabbi, yang setelah dirisik latar belakangnya, yang akhirnya saya dan ahli keluarga saya memberi kepercayaan kepadanya untuk mendidik dan mentarbiyah saya, agar akhirnya saya juga mampu menjadi murabbiah dan berganding bahu dengannya bagi meneruskan agenda tarbiyah kepada ‘ahli-ahli baru’ nanti. Proses tarbiyah yang bukan hanya sehala, tapi juga harus datang daripada diri saya, dan hasil dari interaksi saya dengan murabbi serta orang-orang di sekeliling saya.

Sekolah ini tidak mampu berdiri, melainkan dengan kerja keras ahli-ahlinya, yang saling mempercayai dan saling menyempurnakan, serta kebergantungan dan kepercayaan secara total kepada Allah. Pergantungan dan tawakkal kepada Allah sangat perlu, kerana ‘peperiksaan’ bersiri yang bakal ditempuhi tidak semudah ujian di atas kertas, malah perlu jiwa yang kental dan hati yang tenang untuk menghadapinya.

Sungguhpun masih baru, saya harus lekas menyesuaikan diri, agar proses tarbiyah itu tidak terencat dek perasaan-perasaan negatif yang tidak seharusnya ada dalam diri seorang muslim.

رَبِّ اجْعَلْنِي مُقِيمَ الصَّلَاةِ وَمِنْ ذُرِّيَّتِي رَبَّنَا وَتَقَبَّلْ دُعَاءِ
“Ya Tuhanku, jadikanlah aku dan zuriatku orang-orang yang tetap mendirikan solat, ya Tuhan kami, perkenankanlah doaku.” [Ibrahim: 40]

Sekadar meluahkan buah minda saya sebagai respon kepada isu yang pernah dibincangkan di radio beberapa hari lalu. Berkenaan dakyah Kristian secara bebas di Malaysia. Entah, saya rasa isu ini isu lama, mungkin dihangatkan kembali memandangkan ia berkait dengan isu penggunaan kalimah Allah secara umum bagi menterjemahkan perkataan ‘god/lord’ di dalam kitab/buku agama selain islam. Tak dapat dinafikan juga, isu ini menjadi batu loncatan kepada sesetengah parti/gerakan politik untuk memenangi hati rakyat yang semakin cakna agama.

Saya masih ingat, sewaktu di bangku sekolah, semua orang menggelabah dengan holy water, dan melatah bila berlaku gerakan kristianisasi. Pernah juga sesekali tertanya-tanya, kenapa perlu marah dengan gerakan kristianisasi? Memanglah risau, tapi bukankah setiap orang mempunyai hak untuk menyebarkan agama masing-masing tanpa mengira siapa minoriti dan majoriti? Mungkin kerana di Malaysia (kononnya) negara islam, kita berada di zon selesa, kurang berfikir tentang hak penyebaran agama islam. Bila jadi kaum minoriti di negara majoriti bukan islam, baru kita menghargai kepentingan hak berdakwah.

Saya sangat tertarik dan bersetuju dengan pandangan Bro Shah Kirit tentang responnya berkenaan isu kalimah Allah. (Sila google, jangan malas!) Setiap orang bebas menyebarkan agama masing-masing melalui apa-apa medium tanpa niat/tindakan menipu/mengelirukan audiens. Adil, fair and square. Peranan kita sebagai Muslim, jernihkan aqidah, perkasakan dakwah. Kerana bila ada dakwah, dakyah akan kalah. Dan saya rasa perlu untuk kita melihat usaha dakyah agama lain itu sebagai peluang untuk kita menyebarluaskan dakwah islamiyah. Bila ada dakyah, ada dialog, bila ada dialog ada perbincangan, bila ada perbincangan, ada penjelasan.

Persoalan: Antara dakyah kristian dan dakyah Syiah, mana lebih bahaya?

Personally, saya lebih takut akan dakyah Syiah berbanding dakyah agama lain. Agama lain jelas kebatilannya. Tetapi dakyah Syi’ah atas nama islam, yang berselindung di sebalik taqiyah. Jadi jika mahu marahkan orang Kristian, marah dulu kepada orang Syiah yang dakyahnya kian berleluasa.

Sedar tak sedar, sudah 2 bulan saya kembali bergelar perantau. Kata bonda saya, separuh umur saya yang lebih sedikit daripada 1/4 abad ini dihabiskan di negeri orang. Iya, sejak tingkatan satu sudah berjauhan dengan keluarga, hinggalah saya tamatkan pengajian ijazah saya, barulah mendiam di rumah bonda selama 2 tahun. Selepas tamat latihan sebagai pegawai perubatan siswazah di kawasan Lembah Klang, saya dihantar keluar untuk berkhidmat di pantai timur pula. Jadi saya faham benar kenapa mak beriya-iya menyuruh saya memohon untuk berkhidmat di negeri tempat mak & ayah bakal bermastautin nanti. Maafkan anakmu ya mak, mudah-mudahan Allah izinkan, suatu hari nanti.

Pantai Timur; di sini saya membesar sebagai remaja, tempat saya menimba ilmu selama 5 tahun. Banyak kenangan pahit manis yang akhirnya saya berkeputusan tidak mahu lagi bermukim ke sana, apatah lagi untuk dijadikan tempat bermastautin. Namun percaturan Allah itu melebihi keinginan dan usaha manusia. Akhirnya, Pantai Timur kembali menjadi tempat persinggahan saya, untuk beberapa tahun mungkin. Allahu A’lam.

Perihal O&G

Bila sebut O&G, orang-orang di aliran perubatan akan terbayang Jabatan Perbidanan dan Sakit Puan (Obstetrics & Gynaecology). Tapi rupa-rupanya ada maksud lain yang agak popular; Oil & Gas. Kemaman dan Kerteh – Sinonim dengan istilah O&G. Kerana ramainya jurutera-jurutera petroleum di dua bandar ini, kos sara hidup di sini boleh dikira agak tinggi. Malah belanja makan di sini menyamai (dan kadang-kadang melebihi) belanja makan saya di KL. [Mujur rumah sewa sebelah pasaraya; bila lapar, beli barang mentah, balik rumah masak sesedap rasa tanpa perlu fikir harga.]

O&G

Kembali kepada maksud O&G menurut kamus hidup saya: Obstetrics & Gynaecology. Memang ramai yang bertanya, adakah saya berada di bidang ini atas kehendak sendiri atau paksa rela. Hm, anggaplah saya sudah menjadi tunangan Encik Dewhurst (penulis buku rujukan O&G) tanpa melupakan cinta pertama dan harapan saya kepada Encik Murtagh (penulis buku General Practitioner). Saya berusaha untuk apa yang berada di genggaman saya sekarang, tanpa leka untuk mengintai peluang untuk kembali ke bidang yang menjadi cita-cita saya.

Alhamdulillah, sudah mula berjinak-jinak dengan Ventouse dan Caesarean Section. Belajar mengawal emosi, tanpa merencat tindakan. Kesilapan atau kelewatan yang sedikit kekadang boleh menyebabkan kesan buruk yang besar. Tidak mudah untuk saya yang selalu sahaja berdebar dan panik bila berlaku pendarahan lebih dari yang dijangka. Saiz tubuh saya yang agak kecil juga merupakan satu cabaran untuk saya lebih-lebih lagi jika pesakit yang perlu dibedah itu berlebihan berat badan. Seluruh kudrat terpaksa dikerah untuk membedah seorang pesakit begitu. Sungguh, O&G perlu kekuatan fizikal, mental dan emosi!

Wahai Allah, hanya Engkau yang memudahkan urusan hamba-hambaMu.

Lagu yang membuatkan saya menangis.
Saya bukan peminat lagu genre begini, tapi kerana rasa ingin tahu sangat kuat; ayah kerap kali memutarkan lagu ini. Dan kali pertama saya meneliti beberapa bait-bait lagu ini, air mata saya mengalir. Baru saya mengerti.

The home is a blessing. Allah says:

“And Allah has made for you in your homes an abode…”[al-Nahl 16:80]

Ibn Katheer (may Allah have mercy on him) said:

“Here Allah, may He be blessed and exalted, is mentioning His complete blessing to His slaves: He has given them homes which are a peaceful abode for them, to which they retreat as a haven which covers them and gives them all kinds of benefits.”

What makes a home blessed?

Here are 40 recommendations by Sh Muhammed Saalih al- Munajjid on building a Muslim Home
(excerpted from his book, ‘The Muslim Home: 40 Recommendations’)

1- Making a good choice when choosing a wife:
“A woman may be married for four things: her wealth, her lineage, her beauty or her religion. Choose the one who is religious, may your hands be rubbed with dust [i.e., may you prosper]!” (Agreed upon).

2- It is also essential to look at the situation of the prospective husband who is proposing marriage to the Muslim woman.
“If there comes to you one with whose religion and character you are pleased, then marry your daughter [or sister, etc.] to him, otherwise there will be fitnah and great corruption in the land.”

3- Striving to guide ones wife

4- Making the home a place for the remembrance of Allah

5- Spiritual training for the members of the household – enjoining night-prayers, giving charity, fasting on al-Ayyaam al-Beyd (the 13th, 14th and 15th of each Hijri month), Mondays and Thursdays, Taasoo’aa’ and ‘Aashooraa’ (the 9th and 10th of Muharram), ‘Arafaah, and frequently in Muharram and Sha’baan.

6- Paying attention to adhkaar and Sunnah du’a’s that have to do with the home:
Mention the name of Allah upon entering home, and recite ‘Bismillaah, tawakkaltu ‘ala Allah, laa hawla wa laa quwwata illaa Billaah (In the name of Allah, I put my trust in Allah, there is no help and no strength except in Allah) upon going out of the house.

7- Siwaak

8- Continuously reciting Surah al-Baqarah in the house to ward off the Shaytan

9- Teaching the family islamic knowledge in the home

10- Start building an Islamic “library” in your home: books, audios

11- Inviting good and righteous people and seekers of knowledge to visit the home.

12- Learning the Islamic rulings with regard to houses. These include: Praying in the house, Seeking permission to enter one’s house.

13- One should not stay alone overnight in the house

14- Not sleeping on the roof of a house that has no protecting wall

15- Pet cats do not make vessels naajis (impure) if they drink from them, or make food naajis if they eat from it.

16- Knowing the advantages of khushoo’ in Salah; expiation of previous sins, so long as they were not major sins, and the reward recorded is in proportion to the degree of khushoo’.

17- Striving to offer du’a’ at the appropriate times during the prayer, especially in sujood

18- Adhkaar to be recited after prayer

19- Pay attention to nawafil (supererogatory) prayers, because they make up for anything lacking in the fard (obligatory) prayers

20- Removing anything that may distract the worshipper:
Not praying when there is food prepared that one wants to eat, when one needs to answer the call of nature, when one feels sleepy. Not praying behind someone who is talking (or sleeping) and not occupying oneself with smoothing the ground in front of one

21- Avoid anything that will distract others from their prayer:
Not disturbing others with one’s recitation, Not turning around during prayer (including the heart and eyes), Not raising one’s gaze to the heavens, Not spitting in front of one when praying, Trying not to yawn when praying, Not putting one’s hands on one’s hips when praying, Not letting one’s clothes hang down (sadl) during prayer, Not resembling animals

22- Spreading kindness in the home; Helping one’s wife with the housework, being affectionate towards and joking with the members of the family

23- Resisting bad manners in the home. Hinting at punishment by hanging up the whip where the members of the household can see it.

24- Beware of non-mahrem relatives entering upon women when their husbands are absent.

25- Men and women should sit separately during family visits.

26- Be aware of the dangers of having male drivers and female servants in the house.

27- Kick immoral people out of your houses.

28- Beware of the dangers of TV and its effects and ability to influence family members.

29- Beware of the evils of the telephone.

30- You have to remove everything that contains symbols of the false religions of the kuffar or their gods and objects of worship.

31- Removing pictures of animate beings.

32- Do not allow smoking in your homes.

33- Do not keep dogs in your homes.

34- Avoid too much decoration in your homes (keep it simple).

35- Choosing a good location and design of home.
E.g.: close to a mosque, and toilets are not sited in such a way that one faces the qiblah when using them.

36- Choosing a spacious house with plenty of amenities.

37- Paying attention to health-related matters such as ventilation, natural light and so on.

38- Choosing the neighbour before the house.

39- Paying attention to necessary repairs in the home, and making sure that the amenities are in good working order.

40- Paying attention to the family’s health and safety procedures.

“O you who believe! Ward off from yourselves and your families a Fire (Hell) whose fuel is men and stones, over which are (appointed) angels stern (and) severe, who disobey not, (from executing) the Commands they receive from Allah, but do that which they are commanded.”
[al-Tahreem 66:6]

Short notes on hijab

قُل لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ يَغُضُّوا مِنْ أَبْصَارِهِمْ وَيَحْفَظُوا فُرُوجَهُمْ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ أَزْكَىٰ لَهُمْ ۗ إِنَّ اللَّهَ خَبِيرٌ بِمَا يَصْنَعُونَ
Tell the believing men to lower their gaze and guard their private parts. That is purer for them. Indeed, Allah is Acquainted with what they do. 

وَقُل لِّلْمُؤْمِنَاتِ يَغْضُضْنَ مِنْ أَبْصَارِهِنَّ وَيَحْفَظْنَ فُرُوجَهُنَّ وَلَا يُبْدِينَ زِينَتَهُنَّ إِلَّا مَا ظَهَرَ مِنْهَا ۖ وَلْيَضْرِبْنَ بِخُمُرِهِنَّ عَلَىٰ جُيُوبِهِنَّ ۖ وَلَا يُبْدِينَ زِينَتَهُنَّ إِلَّا لِبُعُولَتِهِنَّ أَوْ آبَائِهِنَّ أَوْ آبَاءِ بُعُولَتِهِنَّ أَوْ أَبْنَائِهِنَّ أَوْ أَبْنَاءِ بُعُولَتِهِنَّ أَوْ إِخْوَانِهِنَّ أَوْ بَنِي إِخْوَانِهِنَّ أَوْ بَنِي أَخَوَاتِهِنَّ أَوْ نِسَائِهِنَّ أَوْ مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَانُهُنَّ أَوِ التَّابِعِينَ غَيْرِ أُولِي الْإِرْبَةِ مِنَ الرِّجَالِ أَوِ الطِّفْلِ الَّذِينَ لَمْ يَظْهَرُوا عَلَىٰ عَوْرَاتِ النِّسَاءِ ۖ وَلَا يَضْرِبْنَ بِأَرْجُلِهِنَّ لِيُعْلَمَ مَا يُخْفِينَ مِن زِينَتِهِنَّ ۚ وَتُوبُوا إِلَى اللَّهِ جَمِيعًا أَيُّهَ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ
And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and guard their private parts and not expose their adornment except that which [necessarily] appears thereof and to wrap [a portion of] their headcovers over their chests and not expose their adornment except to their husbands, their fathers, their husbands’ fathers, their sons, their husbands’ sons, their brothers, their brothers’ sons, their sisters’ sons, their women, that which their right hands possess, or those male attendants having no physical desire, or children who are not yet aware of the private aspects of women. And let them not stamp their feet to make known what they conceal of their adornment. And turn to Allah in repentance, all of you, O believers, that you might succeed.

What is hijab?
A dress code that muslim women adheres to, covers women’s ENTIRE body in a MODEST manner with exception of hands and face.

Purpose of hijab:
1- To give women the right to be judged on their intellect and personality rather than their physical beauty
2- To create positive self-image among women to ensure good emotional health. Because hijab hides a woman’s physical beauty, appearance does not become the focus of her worth. Whomsoever depends on physical beauty for self-worth, they will be disappointed. Some women can’t achieve the society’s definition of physical beauty, hence feel bad about themselves. Some might develop emotional complexes which lead to health problems such as bulimia and anorexia. And even women who fulfill society’s expectation of being physically beautiful will be let down later on as beauty fades with age.
3- In Islam, the goal is to attain beauty in the inside rather than the outside. Inner beauty will not fade and can be achieved through bettering one’s self, a process which is completely within women’s control.
4- Hijab: fair play for all women!🙂

My body is not for your eyes to hold

So you won’t be bothered by ignorant folk”.
Man doesn’t tell me to dress this way
It’s law from God that I obey

Oppressed is something I’m truly not
For liberation is what I’ve got
It was given to me many years ago
With the right to prosper, the right to grow

I can climb mountains or cross the seas
Expand my mind in all degrees
For God Himself gave us liberty,
When He sent Islam, to you and me !
